Precision Machining Plant
North Las Vegas, NV · 1,200 kVA service · 14 VFD-driven CNC cells
- The problem
- VFD drives were injecting 5th and 7th order harmonics back onto the service, overheating the main transformer and tripping drives during peak production shifts.
- What we did
- Level 2 power quality audit followed by tuned passive harmonic filters at the two largest drive panels plus line-side conditioning on the main switchboard.
- The result
- Nuisance drive faults stopped, transformer operating temperature dropped, and the plant reclaimed capacity without upsizing the service.
